I tweak a great quote (in honour). I only wish I had more than one voice to give to my community, because there is so much worth speaking up for. And that’s exactly where you come in.

Dear Ward 5 families,

I want to invite you into a conversation with me. Not a campaign speech. Not a lecture. A conversation—with pizza.

Because community is built when we meet up, ask questions, listen to one another, disagree respectfully, & try to understand what is happening around us.

That’s why I’m creating opportunities for us to connect through Pizza and Politics & Ward 5 Live. One is a pizza tailgate in a parking lot. The other is online. Both are about the same thing: You. Your voice.

Ward 5 LIVE is a virtual town hall on Sunday, September 13, & Sunday, October 18, from 6:45–8:45 p.m. Bring your questions, concerns, ideas—or just come & listen.

This is your opportunity to be part of the conversation. Many no longer talk about politics. But when we stop talking about government, we can lose sight of how much power it has over our everyday lives—how much our voices still matter.🙂

Municipal government has limitations. Provinces set many of the rules municipalities operate under. But those limitations don’t mean we stop asking questions. Understanding our situation is critical. But understanding it is not the same as enabling it. We don’t stop challenging what needs to be challenged.

Councillors, trustees, mayors? They’re titles. The true word underneath them is DEMOCRACY & it only works when preserved by PEOPLE PARTICIPATION.

So maybe Oakville needs a happy troublemaker.

The good kind. The kind who listens. The kind who asks questions. The kind who makes a little noise when necessary. The kind who works with the community, not above it.

Because your voice shouldn’t only matter on election day. It matters every day. Say yes to that.
