Why Municipal Governance Matters

Municipal governments in Ontario are essential for providing daily life services, managing nearly $1 trillion in infrastructure—more than provincial or federal governments—and driving local economic growth.

The town of Oakville works with the Region of Halton to manage services at the community level like local roads, fire services, parks and recreation, libraries, and garbage collection (collection vs. disposal). They operate under the Municipal Act, working in partnership with the province to build infrastructure, housing, and local, sustainable communities.

Ward 5

Oakville Ward 5 is a centrally located, predominantly residential area bounded by Dundas Street West (north), the QEW (south), Trafalgar Road (east), and Sixteen Mile Creek (west). It include Sheridan College (Trafalgar Campus), Oakville Place mall, River Oaks Community Centre, and residential neighbourhoods such as College Park and Oak Park.

The ward elects two councillors: one for Town Council and one for both Town and Regional Council.
